Try Your Best and Have Fun!!!
What To Bring
- Goggles, team swimsuit, and swim cap (if desired)
- Extra goggles and cap, if you have them
- Extra towels
- Sharpies (to write events on hand/arm)
- Chairs, blankets, and toys for entertainment (meets can last a long time)
- Healthy snacks
- Lots of water
- Money for the concession stand
Before The Meet
- Arrive at the pool at least 15 minutes before the scheduled warm-up time begins.
- Swimmers need to check-in at the swimmer check-in table and volunteers need to check-in with the volunteer coordinator.
- On your swimmer's arm or hand, write each event and event number in permanent marker. This helps your swimmer remember what events he or she is swimming and will help him/her know when to report to the Clerk of Course prior to the event. If you aren't able to get the events written prior to arriving at the meet, your swimmer can have them written at swimmer check-in.
- Take a look around the pool deck and find the Clerk of Course area. This is where your swimmer will need to go when it's time to get set up for his/her events.
- A few minutes before warm-up time, swimmers should be ready with their suit, goggles, and swim cap (if needed). Warm-ups are very important and the time goes by very quickly, so please don't be late. The first half of our scheduled warm-up time is for ages 10 & under and the second half is for ages 11 & over.
- Once warm-ups are over, it's time to get ready for the meet! Keep an ear out for our coaches gathering everyone together for a team cheer.
When the Meet Starts
- Know what events your swimmer is competing in. It is important for a swimmer to know what event numbers he or she is swimming.
- Keep an eye on the Clerk of the Course board and be listening for the announcements. Upcoming events are displayed on the pool deck in a designated gathering area for swimmers and the meet announcer will often call event numbers over the loudspeaker. Swimmers need to report to this area with cap and goggles when their event is “called.”
- Please remind your swimmer to be calm and a respectful listener while waiting at Clerk of Course for his/her race to begin. No one wants to miss their race because they aren't paying attention!
- Right before the race, swimmers will move from the Clerk of Course to their designated starting block. It is always a good idea to have your swimmer check in with the lane timers to make sure he/she is in the right lane and heat. Good luck & swim fast!!!
- When you're not swimming, have fun watching all of the races and cheering for your teammates!
Please understand that meets typically last between 3-4 hours depending on the sizes of the teams and the efficiency of the meet officials.
