Flying Fish Volunteer Requirements
Hello, everyone! It's time to talk about our volunteer requirements.
Ferry Farm Flying Fish swim meets are truly a family activity. Our swim meets, especially home meets, absolutely cannot run without the help of many volunteers.
All Flying Fish swimmers MUST have a parent or other adult volunteer for at least one shift for EVERY meet they swim in. The only exceptions to this rule are if all positions are already filled or the swimmer has a parent that is already actively involved with the team board. If there is an open volunteer position for a meet and your swimmer does not have a parent/adult representative signed up to volunteer, you will be assigned a role or your swimmer will be scratched from the meet (unable to swim).
Starting this 2024 season, ALL RETURNING FAMILIES will be asked to have at least one family member registered as a Certified Official (Starter, Data, Stroke & Turn, Head Timer, Clerk of Course, and Referee). The more certified officials we have, the smoother and FASTER our meets will run!
These certified positions require taking a class through the RSL and submitting proof of class completion at the end of the course. Classes for all positions are online, so you can become certified from the comfort of your own home! If you are already certified via VHSL or USA Swimming, you are able to submit a waiver to have that training count for summer swim as well.
Follow the instructions for Certified Officials training and VHSL/USAS waiver submission on the RSL Training Info page, linked below. Please aim to have your class(es) completed and proof of completion submitted prior to our first meet on Wednesday, June 5th. Training classes are available all summer long, but we are hoping to have as many people trained as possible by the first meet.
